Woman Suffering from Migraines Are More Prone To Have Depression

Man suffering from chronic headache, in particular migraine, are more likely to suffer from depression, feel tired, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a clinical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical research involved 1050 man who buy seroquel online at headache clinics in three countries. Of the patients tested, 112 reported episodic headache (less than 15 headaches per month) and 665 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the patients were diagnosed with migraines.

The clinical research found woman with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also six times more inclined to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among women diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the clinical study found the likelihood of major Manic Depression increased 32-fold if the patients also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms could agitate or be a manifestation of major Depression in people with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax online and Atypical Depression should heighten pain perception,” said medical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This link between migraine and major Depression suggests a common neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical investigation are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Psychotic Depression can be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Regardless of what’s causing the link between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric disorder such as Depression complicates headache management and can rouse poorer sequels for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.

The medical research was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American people suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to making better people care through education and clinical investigation. A neurologist is a physician specialized on monitoring, treating and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as blow, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and multiple sclerosis.
